The Athena Research Center is proud to be one of the founding signatories of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information, a new initiative aimed at catalyzing a transformative shift in the research information landscape. The signatories of the declaration commit to taking a lead in reforming the landscape and transforming their practices committing to:
  • making openness of research information the default,
  • working with services and systems that support and enable open research information,
  • supporting the sustainability of infrastructures for open research information, and
  • working together to realize the transition from closed to open research information.
The declaration was prepared in a meeting in Barcelona in November 2023 by a group of over 25 research information experts, representing organizations that carry out, fund, and evaluate research, as well as organizations that provide research information infrastructures. The Athena Research Center has a proven track record in this domain. Through its involvement in various significant projects such as SciLake and GraspOS, it plays a pivotal role in providing open research information infrastructures to the broader research community. By signing the Barcelona Declaration, Athena further solidifies its leadership position in shaping, adopting, and implementing Open Science initiatives both at the European and national levels.
