Petros Pistofidis received his Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras in 2005. His thesis studied the “Hardware and Software Configuration of a Grid Serving Cluster” under the supervision of Professor Emmanouel Varvarigos. He was awarded a full scholarship from the Students Awards Agency Scotland and in 2006 obtained his master’s degree in Computer Science from the Informatics School of the University of Edinburgh. During his postgraduate studies, he followed the Computer Systems and Software Engineering specialization, majoring in Software Engineering and minoring in High Performance Computing. In 2016 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Technologies and Systems for Remote Monitoring and Diagnosis Support”, supervised by Professor Pantelis Botsaris from the Production Engineering and Management (PME) department of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at PME and a research associate at Athena Research Centre (ATHENARC).

From 2008 to 2017, he was a member of ARCs Computer Systems and Applications lab, working in projects that focused into urban and industrial monitoring technologies (industrial internet of things) that serve e-Maintenance and engineering asset management. From 2018 until today, he is a member of ATHENARC Clepsydra lab working on research that specializes in semantic enrichment, smart exhibits, and 3D digitization. His research interests include internet of things, digital twin, and metadata management systems. He is also a follower and an enthusiast for rapid prototyping technologies and design thinking methodologies that foster innovation in domains such as Cloud 2.0 and Industry 4.0.
