Digital technologies in the service of the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) local wine Goumenissa: Next steps

Athena RC as a partner of the European project DESIRA, the American Farm School and the InoFA Alliance co-organized on May 13th the living lab for agricultural technology development "Digital technologies in the service of PDO local wine Goumenissa: Next steps" in Goumenissa - Kilkis, with the support of the Region of Central Macedonia of Kilkis and the Group "Fertile Earth".
32 participants attended the meeting from the areas of local grape and wine production, R&D technologies, educational institutions, local agricultural economy agencies, as well as from local and national political bodies, including the Minister of Rural Development and Food, George Georgantas.
The living lab focused on:• Determining the current situation regarding the organization of local wine production in the wider area of Goumenissa
• Investigating economic-political-technical-geographical factors that may affect the adoption of digital tools in local wine production.
• Examining the local conditions and needs of wine production for the design / customization of digital services, in order to strengthen the supply chain and value chain of local wine production.
The Athena RC team presented the objectives of the DESIRA project: an analysis of the impact of digitization on rural areas and communities in Europe, a discussion on the ways in which technological solutions can be adopted for the benefit of local communities and lead to sustainable development, without excluding individuals or groups and, finally, working through (rough) scenarios on the future of selected rural areas of Europe and on what they will be like in 2031.The event took place in 'Mikro Ktima Titos' which is located in Goumenissa in the wider area of Kilkis, in a property of 100 acres, with a winery open to visit.
