In an effort to encourage the business community to approach and better understand the results generated in its research institutes and units, the Athena Research Center welcomed representatives from more than 20 companies from various sectors on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the hospitable halls of Impact Hub Athens. The Industry Day concept is based on the belief that the interconnection of academic research with the industrial sector can produce multiple benefits for society and the economy, as well as provide solutions to individual industries.

The event was opened by the Director and President of the Board of Directors of the Athena Research Center, Ioannis Emiris, who gave a brief presentation of the Research Center, introducing its 4 Institutes and 7 Units. He then discussed the recent development of Athena, emphasizing the need for an aligned development of the relationship with the industry. Prof. Emiris highlighted Athena's dedication exclusively to digital technologies, making it unique among the research centers in Greece at the moment.

Subsequently, he gave the floor to the researchers and scientific collaborators of the Center, who, through flash talks, provided a brief overview of their activities and research results. The General Manager of Ansys Hellas, Mr. Babis Bakolias, was then invited by Emiris to speak as a representative of a large American software company about the benefits his company had gained from collaborating with Athena. An open discussion followed with all participants regarding the mechanisms that could be developed and how the relationship between the research center and businesses could evolve to yield even more benefits. Another distinguished guest, Mr. Christos Tarantilis, Partner and Head of the Central Government and Public Sector at EY Greece, made a noteworthy statement: "Athena has a great advantage: ... It has a specific vision and it's achievable."

 

The day concluded with networking through scheduled one-to-one and spontaneous meetings, thus strengthening the integration that can arise from the meeting of the two sides, the research and business worlds.
