Maria Pontiki is a linguist with a background in lexicography, dialectology, and computational linguistics, and she has been collaborating with ILSP/Athena RC since 2012. She holds a PhD in Linguistics (University of Crete, 2019), a MSc in Language Technology (National and Technical University of Athens & National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2010), a MSc in Historical, Comparative and Balkan Linguistics (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2006) and a bachelor’s degree in Greek Philology with specialization in Linguistics (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2002). Her research interests include data modelling and knowledge representation, language resources infrastructures, and designing and developing text analysis solutions and resources (e.g., benchmark datasets, lexical resources, linguistic patterns-rules, reasoning mechanisms) with a focus on sentiment analysis related insights (e.g., aspect-based sentiment analysis, opinion mining, emotion/mood analysis, intention analysis, verbal aggression, hate speech). She has participated in several European and national scientific projects (e.g., SSHOC, APOLLONIS, CAPSELLA, CitySense, EOX GR07/3712, CLARIN-EL, IS-HELLEANA) and she has also co-organized sentiment analysis projects/tasks in the framework of international events and challenges (SemEval-2014, SemEval-2015, SemEval-2016, IRSS13). She has been an invited speaker/lecturer in research seminars/workshops (e.g., Xerox Research Centre Europe, European University Institute) and postgraduate programs/summer schools (e.g., Data Journalism Seminar - MA Program in Master of Arts in Quality Journalism & New Technologies, 1st Summer School in Digital Humanities). She has publications in international conferences and journals (more than 1700 citations according to Google Scholar) in the field of Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Language Resources and Computational Social Sciences, and she has also received a best paper award at LREC 2018 (Natural Language Meets Journalism Workshop).
