Dr. Kyriakos Stefanidis, has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the field of network security and a Diploma in Computer Engineering. He is currently a principal researcher at I.S.I. - Industrial Systems Institute, ATHENA R.C. in Patras, Greece. Before his involvement with I.S.I. he was a researcher at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin, Germany and an Enterprise Systems Architect at Intrasoft International, Luxembourg. He was also adjunct professor at the Hellenic Open University, Greece and the University of Patras, Greece. He has 16 years of experience in research and development projects in the areas of secure networked systems, industrial systems security, network security, intrusion detection systems and identity management. He is the author and co-author of ~30 publications in international journals, conferences and book chapters. He has participated in 9 European and national research projects with the role of researcher. He has also participated in more than 10 development projects in the private sector mainly in the area of secure enterprise systems with the roles of software developer, systems architect and technical project manager.
 
Some of his notable projects are the following: The development of the passport issuing system of the Greek state where he participated in the design and implementation of the passport issuing information system as well as the passport printing and validation of the security mechanisms. The european development project “MeliCERTes” where he acted as the technical coordinator for the cybersecurity digital service infrastructure for the european Computer Emergency Response teams (CERTs). The european research project “DATAVAULTS” where he acted as the project coordinator for the design and implementation of a hybrid platform for the management and sharing of personal data.
