Launch of the JustReDI project

27-06-2023

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Athena Research Center, along with five other collaborating institutions, signed a Cooperation Agreement for the implementation of the project titled " Resilience, inclusiveness and development: Towards a just green and digital transition of Greek regions" (JustReDI). The funding for the project is provided through the Recovery and Resilience Fund under Greece’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Greece 2.0) with the National Center for Social Research (EKKE) being the Project Coordinator. The project's duration is 28 months.

The other collaborating institutions in the Consortium are the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the International Hellenic University (IHU), the University of West Attica (UNIWA), and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). The project is funded with 4,915,000 euros and falls under the interdisciplinary research area of "Social Impacts of Green and Digital Transition." It is one of the few instances in Greece where a research program focusing on issues of social interest is supported with truly adequate funding.
In the context of Flagship Actions in interdisciplinary scientific areas with a special interest in the connection with the productive tissue the scope of the JustReDI project is fourfold and focuses on:

  • the assessment of the current situation regarding twin transition in Greece
  • the recording of opinions, attitudes, value orientations and behavioral predispositions of both the general public and individual social groups,
  • providing technological solutions and tools to support policy proposals (data driven policy making)
  • the content and focus of public policies in relation to twin transition
The above is examined regarding the positive and negative impacts the green and digital transition has on:

  • individuals and households
  • business and the economy in general
  • the planning and implementation processes of sectoral policies
So that digital transformation and decarbonisation are achieved in terms of equity, resilience, sustainable development, and social inclusion.

The project will employ approximately 250 researchers, with a significant percentage of them being young scientists (external collaborators and research assistants). They will be given the opportunity for professional employment and gain high-level specialized research experience.
