Athena participates in first IBISBA mini-Summit

Digital infrastructures for industrial biotechnology

07-02-2024

On January 31st and February 1st, 2024, the first mini-Summit of IBISBA (Industrial Biotechnology Innovation and Synthetic Biology Accelerator) took place in Paris. The event aimed to facilitate active dialogue among researchers, representatives of EU member states, and businesses. Its goal was to highlight how technology can contribute to Europe's transition to a Circular Bioeconomy and to map national and European funding initiatives supporting interdisciplinary collaborations for accelerating research and innovation.

As an active member of IBISBA, Athena actively participated in the open dialogue conducted during the summit. President of Athena, Ioannis Emiris, contributed to the speaker panel, discussing the prospects of digital support for synthetic biology in Europe. The presence of Theodoros Dalamagas, Deputy Director of the Information Managment Systems Institute, Stylianos Sartzetakis, Research Director at the same Institute, and Thanasis Gentimis, General Director of SYMBIOLABS (Athena spin-off), was also significant.

Since 2022, Athena has been part of the collaborative effort within the IBISBA Memorandum of Understanding, contributing to the shared vision of this large research infrastructure. A key aspect of Athena's strategy and significant activity is focused on digital technologies for biotechnology and the circular economy. Athena already provides technological solutions and support for data infrastructure tailored to IBISBA's needs.

IBISBA is a European Research Infrastructure dedicated to industrial biotechnology, involving academic entities in more than 15 European countries. It serves as a unique access point for researchers from both academic and industrial sectors worldwide, offering comprehensive services for the development of bio-processes from inception to completion.
