Explainable Manufacturing Artificial Intelligence: The EU-funded XMANAI project has just been launched (Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies (ICT), Artificial intelligence for manufacturing). XMANAI aims at placing the indisputable power of Explainable AI at the service of manufacturing and human progress, carving out a “human-centric”, trustful approach that is respectful of European values and principles. XMANAI will help the manufacturing value chain to shift towards the amplifying AI era by coupling AI "glass box" (explainable) models with complex AI assets (data and models) and secure data sharing infrastructures to solve concrete manufacturing problems with high impact. The project involves a large number of academic and industrial partners, including a number of large scale demonstrators (FORD ESPANA, WHIRLPOOL, CNH ITALIA and UNIMETRIK).
Within XMANAI, the "Athena" Research Center leads, among other tasks, the design and implementation of graph machine intelligence algorithms to be integrated in the XMANAI platform. Work involves developing a set of libraries and algorithms for graph machine learning to support knowledge extraction, business intelligence and analytics tailored to manufacturing domains. Moving beyond mainstream analytics and statistics, we will take a deeper dive, employing specific deep learning principles to implement prescriptive analytic methods to allow “what-if” simulation scenarios set by demonstrators.
