"Athena" RC had the honor to welcome the General Secretary for Research and Innovation, Athanasios Kyriazis, in its facilities in Xanthi, on September 21st, 2022.
The visit started with an event held in the auditorium of the Research Center, with the participation of the research and administrative staff. The General Director of "Athena" RC, Ioannis Emiris presented the actions of the Center, while the Director of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) and Vice President of "Athena" RC, Vassilis Katsouros presented the actions of ILSP.
Later on, Mr. Kyriazis talked about the achievements of GSRI concerning research and innovation, focusing on the Calls for new projects and, at the same time, emphasizing the need to link Research Centers with private companies to promote innovation.
Then, the GSRI was guided around the premises of the Center and had the opportunity to learn about important applications for culture, archaeology, the environment, smart agriculture and life sciences, by the researchers of ILSP and the members of the Environmental and Networking Technologies and Applications Unit (ENTA) of ATHENA RC.
He was also updated on the progress of the 2 building sub-projects in Xanthi and on issues of concern to research and administrative staff, while the discussion focused on current and future research and innovation funding opportunities.

Emiris stated, "The presence of ATHENA RC in Xanthi is extremely important at a strategic and national level, since it constitutes the most distant representation of the research network, and it provides benefits for young scientists in the region. Our actions have a strong regional dimension, as they cover applications in smart agriculture, folk tradition and culture, as well as contemporary topics such as the use of modern technologies in the environment and life sciences. At the same time, all our efforts in the field of innovation give a new impetus and focus on the transfer of technology from "Athena" RC to the society of Northern Greece”.
