The 3rd ACM Europe Summer School on Data Science was successfully completed!

For the third consecutive year in Athens

The 3rd ACM Europe Summer School on Data Science was completed successfully and left memorable impressions to students and lecturers alike. The Summer School took place in Athens, Greece, from 11 to 17 of July 2019, in Athens Marriott Hotel.

Fifty five young computer science researchers and engineers from all Continents, young faculty, postdocs, PhD candidates and MSc students, arrived in Athens to attend an intense week of lectures, hands-on sessions and keynote talks from eight distinguished scientists.

Six subjects in Data Science, Data Management and Analysis, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Visual Analytics and Ethics were selected to offer students the chance to develop skills and expertise, broaden their international experience and capitalize on this great knowledge opportunity. The academic part of the summer school was enriched by a keynote talk on Data Bias by Constantinos Daskalakis (MIT), who was recently honored with the 2018 ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
As part of the courses, Maria Roussou presented the ACM-W Professional Chapter and its vision of fostering gender mainstreaming, as well as enhancing and advocating gender balance in computer-related scientific fields and digital professions.
 
At the same time, students had the opportunity to participate in a number of interesting social activities and specifically with an educational visit to the Acropolis Museum, team bonding games, flavors from around the world and a party by the sea.
