The “Athena” – Research and Innovation Center in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies taking into account:
  1. the provisions of Law 4310/2014 "Research, Technological Development and Innovation and other provisions" (Government Gazette (GG) 258/A/08.12.2014), as applicable
  2. the provisions of Law 4386/2016 "Regulations for Research and other provisions" (Government Gazette (GG) 83/Α/11.05.2016), as applicable
  3. the article 64 of Law 4485/2017 "Organization and operation of higher education, regulations for Research and other provisions" (Government Gazette (GG) 114/ Α/04.08.2017)
  4. the provisions of article 4 paragraph 1 of Council of Ministers Act 33/2006 about Suspension of Appointments in the Public Sector
  5. the provisions of Presidential Decree 145/2003, regarding the formation and operation of
“Athena RC” (Government Gazette (GG) 121 /Α/2003), as applicable
  1. the Rules of Procedure of “Athena RC”, as applicable
  2. the Grant Agreement, dated on 16/07/2019, of the project “GRAPES: Learning, processing and optimising shapes” (GA Number: 860843)
  3. the decisions of the “Athena RC” Board regarding the implementation of the project “GRAPES: Learning, processing and optimising shapes” (4/12/2019 ) and the present Call for Expression of Interest (15/1/2020)
 
The Information Management Systems Institute  /  “Athena”  –  Research  and Innovation Center in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies (IMSI /  Athena RC) announces two (2) job vacancies regarding Scientific Associates under contract for a fixed period  of  time  related  to  the  implementation  of  specific  deliverables,  which  may  be extended depending on the progress of the project "GRAPES: Learning, processing and optimising shapes" until its completion, with a corresponding remuneration.
 
"Athena RC" is a non-profit Legal Body governed by Private Law, which is supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Development and Investments.
 
The  remuneration  rates  are  in  accordance  with  the  special  subject of  assignment,  the qualifications of the associates, the duration of the contract, the pre-calculated for the assigned project cost, the Law 4354/2015, while it is subject to the limitations of the funding program and the current legislation.
 
The subject of the project to be assigned, the required and desired qualifications of the Scientific Associates to be employed under this Call for Expression of Interest are set out in the tables below.

Job description
Algorithm design and software development (e.g in Maple, Matlab, C/C++) for components of a toolbox for ray-shooting, surface-surface intersection, computing distances and tangents,

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering (or an equivalent diploma)
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering (or an equivalent diploma allowing them to pursue a PhD)
  • Be, at the date of recruitment, in the first 4 years of their research career (following their Master’s degree), and not have a doctoral degree
  • Not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Greece, for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date
  • Very good knowledge of the English language proved by one of the methods mentioned in Presidential Decree 50/2001 otherwise by any other appropriate means

    • computational algebra,
    • computer-aided geometric design and geometric modeling,
    • differential geometry,
    • numerical analysis,
    • algorithm design and analysis,

  • Research experience
The above can be proved by interviewing the candidates if necessary or by publications in internationally recognized scientific or technical journals

Job description
This PhD investigates and designs deep learning models for meaningful embeddings of 3D shapes in vector spaces, using novel, powerful architectures including autoencoders and generative adversarial networks and targeting new tasks like metric learning for similarity retrieval. Weaker supervision settings like self-supervised, semi-supervised, weakly supervised and few-shot learning will be investigated, allowing the use of unlabeled 3D data.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering (or an equivalent diploma)
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering (or an equivalent diploma allowing them to pursue a PhD)
  • Be, at the date of recruitment, in the first 4 years of their research career (following their Master’s degree), and not have a doctoral degree
  • Not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Greece, for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date

The above can be proved by interviewing the candidates if necessary or by publications in internationally recognized scientific or technical journals
 
A more detailed description of the projects to be assigned, as well as the deliverables associated with them, will be included in the contracts between Athena RC and the persons selected.
 
To certify the proper implementation and review of the deliverables of the projects to be assigned there will be a statement, signed by the Scientific Coordinator of the project, in accordance with article 52 par.3 of Law 4485/2017 and the current legislation and financing terms.
 
Duration
Estimated duration of the contracts between R.C. “Athena” and the selected Scientific Associates is listed in the tables above.
 
The contracts may be renewed or extended without limitation upon the decision of the “Athena RC” Board and provided that required funding for the project exists, without announcing a new Call for Expression of Interest, by the project completion date.
 
The estimated start date for the contracts is 1/12/2020.
 
Place of implementation of the projects to be assigned
 
The place of implementation of the projects to be assigned by the selected candidates is the headquarters of Research Centre “Athena” - Information Management Systems Institute, Artemidos 6 & Epidavrou, Maroussi, 15125, Athens, Greece.
 
Expression of Interest – Application and document submission:
 
Candidates who must be Greek / EU citizens or nationals of non-EU countries legally either possessing residence permit with a right of access to employment or having the possibility of obtaining a residence permit with a right of access to employment in time for this call, are invited to submit their application form by Friday, the 30th of October 2020, 17:00 at the latest, along with the following documents:
  • A detailed CV written in the language of the present Call
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A transcript of the Master studies’ grades, and the Master thesis if available
  • At least one letter of recommendation, preferably by the Master's thesis supervisor
  • Proof of language knowledge as defined above
  • Publications in hardcopy or online (adding url) or by any other appropriate sufficient evidence

All documents need to be submitted in print form, either original or exact copies in Greek or English.
 
Applications should mention the “Code of job vacancy” (as stated in the Tables above).
 
The applications shall be submitted to the Secretariat of IMSI, by the applicant in person or a representative, until the above mentioned date and time. They can either be sent via registered mail or courier. In this case the candidates need to ensure that their application will be received by R.C. “Athena” until 30/10/2020 by 17:00.
 
Replacement or correction of the application or submission of any missing supporting documents is permitted only until the above mentioned deadline.
 
Incomplete applications or applications without mentioning the “Code of job vacancy” (as stated in the Tables above) will not be taken into consideration. Qualifications mentioned either in the proposal or the CV which do not come along with the relevant supporting documents, will not be taken into account for the evaluation of the candidates.
 
Any applications submitted after the deadline will not be assessed. Any applications submitted in electronic form will also not be evaluated.
 
Diplomas awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions (H.E.I.) will have to be legally recognized by the Hellenic NARIC.
 
The male candidates should either have fulfilled the military service or have received deferment during the implementation of the assigned project.
 
Announcement of results - Objections
After the results of the evaluation are approved by the “Athena RC” Board, they will be announced on the website of  the Information Management Systems Institute http://www.imsi.athenarc.gr/. It is noted that if the persons selected are public servants, it is their responsibility to comply with the requirements of article 31 of Law 3528/2007. Applications that do not meet the required qualifications of the call will be rejected. The candidates have the right:
  • within a period of 5 working days from the day after the results are announced to submit an objection on their evaluation via a written statement towards “Athena RC”,
  • of access to the applications and the evaluation sheets of the rest candidates via a written statement to “Athena RC” which should be submitted within 5 working days from the day after the results are announced and under the condition of compliance to the document No Γ/ΕΞ/4163-1/6.7.2012 and the decisions No 17/2002, 56/2003 & 40/2005 of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority and in particular under the following conditions:
a) The request of data follows a legal process in compliance with article 5§2, point e, of Law
2472/1997.
  1. The announcement of candidates' data is limited to providing only those which were taken into account for the evaluation.
  1. The data announced do not include personal data unless these were taken into account for the candidates' evaluation.
The objection is allowed for legal reasons only and not for reassessment by the Evaluation Committee.
 
Objection applications are submitted: in person, by authorized person, by registered mail, by courier.
 
For the two last aforementioned options, the date of submission of the objection is considered the date of the post office/courrier service. If the expiry date of the above deadline is a non-working day, the deadline shall be postponed to the following working day. Late applications are not taken into account.
 
The objections submitted are checked out by a three-member Committee which is appointed by the “Athena RC” Board. The members of the Committee are not allowed to be relatives by blood up to the third degree or by marriage with any candidate.
In the event that the deadline expires without the submission of any objections, the selected candidates are called to sign a contract.
It is noted that this call may be canceled at any time without any candidate having claim against “Athena RC”.
 
The projects to be assigned shall be in compliance with the Project entitled "GRAPES: Learning, processing and optimizing shapes" - GA No 860843.
 
Personal data protection policy:
R.C. “Athena” collects the personal data which are submitted under this - published on its website - call for expression of interest and these are processed solely for the purpose of selecting the appropriate candidate.
The evaluation committee and the necessary administrative staff of R.C. “Athena” are the only ones who process these data for the above purpose.
They are retained for as long as necessary for the completion of the evaluation and contracting process and are subsequently deleted unless otherwise specified by the legislative or regulatory framework or as required to defend the rights of R.C. “Athena” in Court or other authority.
